iPhone 5 Officially Announced

Finally Apple announced the next-gen iPhone, which is simply called the iPhone 5. This happened at he Apple press conference in San Francisco. The iPhone 5 was introduced by Phil Schiller. So let’s see what new features this dreamboat comes with.

The iPhone 5 is entirely made of aluminum and glass. Not it’s taller and bigger with only 7.6mm thickness and weighing 112 grams, thus it is 20% less than the iPhone 4S.

As we have been thinking, the iPhone 5 is packed with a 4-inch Retina Display with 16:9 aspect ratio and 1136×640 pixel resolution, which counts for 326ppi pixel density.

The processor is improved in comparison with the iPhone 4S as well—now the new gen iPhone sports an A6 processor, which is twice as fast as the A5. The GPU is doubled too. But all these enhancements have no sense, if doesn’t provide longer life time. Plus, it it is smaller physically.

On the front is an HD camera for web chat via FaceTime, while the back side of the iPhone 5 has an 8MP camera with a 5-element lens and f/2.4 aperture. Thus this feature has been remained almost the same.

There are three microphones in order to minimize the background noise when calling and to capture clearer audio while shooting video. The speaker comes with a 5-magnet transducer for better performance.

This new handset comes with a battery that provides up to 8 hours f talk time or browsing in 3G or LTE, while the same things can be done up to 10 hours on WiFi. As you guess, the iPhone 5 supports for four networks–HSPA+ (it’s unclear if that includes T-Mobile bands), DC-HSDPA, and LTE. But what;s interesting all these radios are included in one chip. This will allow Apple to launch it via many carriers worldwide. The company has already annoucned several major carriers–Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint in the US; Telus, Fido, Rogers, Bell, Virgin, and Koodo in Canada; KDDI and Softbank in Japan; KT and SK in Korea; Smartfone in China; and T-Mobile Europe, just to name a few.

The iPhone 5 also comes with a smaller dock called Lightning. It can be used for both charging and connecting to the computer. This new connector is reversible, thus there is no difference in which direction it is plugged. Plus, Bose, JBL, Bowers & Wilkins, Bang & Olufsen and other companies are going to launch audio accessories compatible with the new dock.

As to software, the iPhone 5 runs the newest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 6. Though the manufacturer doesn’t disclose many details on it, we know iOS 6 will come with deep Facebook integration, Apple’s new 3D Maps with turn-by-turn navigation, Passbook and “Do Not Disturb” in the process. Safari browser now has a full-screen mode and you’ll be able to share tabs from your desktop with your phone. The latter is called iCloud Tabs. Siri is improved as well, and now it can bring up sports ranking and Rotten Tomatoes movie ratings. Finally, I want to introduce you FaceTime over cellular. iOS 6 will be available for download on September 19.

At the end, the iPhone 5 will be available for pre-order on September 14 from the online Apple store. The phone will be launched on September 21 in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore. The 16GB will be available for $199.99 with a two year-contract, while the 32GB will be sold for $299.99, and the 64GB model will be offered for $399.99. there will be two colors—white and black.
